Combining NYC standard preschool curriculum with Montessori approach benefits children by:
1. Balancing academics and hands-on learning: NYC standards provide academic rigor, while Montessori's hands-on approach enhances understanding and retention.
2. Fostering independence and creativity: Montessori's self-directed learning encourages independence and creativity, while NYC standards provide structure.
3. Promoting holistic development: Montessori focuses on whole-child development, while NYC standards ensure academic progress Montessori materials and activities can increase motivation and interest in learning.
5. wherever you chose to go after our program, the transition will be smoother, as Montessori hands on only, can lack the cognitive worksheets training that is today more extensive starting in kindergarten, we want to adapt our way to teach with our "today" time.
This blended approach prepares children for future success by developing essential skills, such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration.
The Curriculum that follows shows the sequential activities/concepts introduced to the child by year. These activities/concepts will be repeated and reinforced throughout the cycle for the child to achieve mastery. Each child however, moves through the curriculum in his or her own individual way following his or her own inner guide and developmental time table (why we are not referring to ages but by level of colors). The guide reflects the curriculum sequence within a four-year cycle. Though displayed in a chronological sequence for ease of presentation, the pace of learning is dictated by the child's developmental readiness. Montessori education acknowledges the sometimes uneven acquisition of skills. The curriculum therefore must be accepted as a general instructional sequence and will vary according to the child's motivation and readiness.
Our preschool program incorporates cultural, social, geographical, botanical themes and science to foster an appreciation for diversity, community, and the world around us. Through engaging activities, cognitive worksheets and hands-on experiences, our theme will last depending on the complexity (1 to 2 weeks).
For Spanish & French, 2 weeks will be reinforcing the learning of a second language for each theme, those themes are the more necessary themes needed when learning a second language and will be chosen in our 3-year themes.
Our 3-year curriculum is designed to repeat its different themes every 3 years. With a focus on hands-on learning in the first year for 2 year-old children (Montessori focus). This introductory year lays a strong foundation for future learning, and our cyclical approach ensures that children will go after their 2 year-old program through the 3 years themes before kindergarten and that children can join at any age and still benefit from our comprehensive program.
Our children will explore various themes such as :
